About the Documentary
Explore the history, science and politics of the opium trade by following opium's voyage around the world. Enter the disparate worlds of an opium master in southeast Asia, a UN drug enforcement officer on the border of Afghanistan hunting down the smugglers of central Asia, a former Indian government drug czar who encounters the opium farmers of northern India, and a Vancouver heroin user struggling to kick the habit.
Director/Co-writer - Peter Findlay is an award-winning director and writer with strong story-telling skills and a keen interest in the convergence of popular culture and social change. After working for 10 years at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, he's spent the past decade working in independent documentary production. A past winner of a Canadian Science Writer Award - and finalist for a HotDocs Documentary Award - Findlay was honoured with a Gemini Award in 2003 for Directing "The Olympians" for CBC–TV. In 2005 he also won a Special Jury Award for investigative journalism from the Houston Worldfest Film Festival.
President/Executive Producer - Robert Lang is founder and president of Kensington Communications, an internationally recognized, award-winning documentary and interactive media producer and director with over 25 years of production experience. Recent series work includes: the 20-part "City Sonic" multi-platform film series which premiered at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival; the 3-part Gemini Award-winning series "Diamond Road" for TVO, Discovery Times, ZDF/ARTE in Europe and SBS Australia, accompanied by an innovative interactive documentary website Diamond Road Online which won a Canadian New Media Award and was invited to festivals and new media conferences worldwide.
