The Jungle Book (Long Version)
This animated series is based on the classic book by Rudyard Kipling and tells of the adventures of Mowgli, a boy raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. With his best friends, a wise bear named Baloo, the panther Baghera, and the python Kaa, Mowgli learns to overcome adversity and survive in the jungle. This is particularly challenging with a tenacious enemy like Shere Khan, a Royal Bengal tiger. Mowgli also has to defend himself against a sneaky jackal and the Bandar-Log, or monkey people, who live in the forest treetops and pay no heed to the laws of the jungle.

The Tooth of the Matter / A Real Wolf

There seems to be a strange and frightening monster at large in the jungle. It turns out to be Jakala, who is suffering from a terrible toothache. At the request of the baby crocodiles, Mowgli alleviates Jakala's pain by means of some 'ad hoc' dentistry. When Shere Kahn goes in search of Mowgli and corners him near the river, it looks as though it's the end for the man-cub. But Jakala is not too far away and decides that one good turn deserves another and he sees the rapacious tiger off. Once again Phaona is trying to get Mowgli ousted from the wolf pack, this time by saying that Mowgli tried to steal his prey. Akela decrees that Mowgli will have to take the Mist Valley test to prove he is a real wolf. This entails Mowgli finding things in the mist just by sight and smell. Phaona pairs up with Tabaqui and they try to ensure that Mowgli never comes out of Mist Valley alive, but their plan goes wrong when Tabaqui gets covered in biting black maggots and is discovered. Akela is furious with Phanoa and he then pronounces that Mowgli is now official A Real Wolf.

Mowgli Number One Fan / Mowgli the Artist

Mowgli discovers that a young monkey named Moky thinks he is absolutely wonderful, brave and courageous. In fact, Moky Mowgli's Number One Fan. The hero worship is fine until Mowgli wants to continue on a construction he is making for Boo and Oo, the turtles, and sends Moky back to be with his parents. Moky wanders around the jungle, only to walk straight into Shere Kahn. He calls to Mowgli for help and leads him to where the young monkey and Shere Kahn are waiting. Using the construction, Mowgli helps the little monkey to escape, but is then trapped himself. Moky's cries have alerted his parents, and it is they and some other monkeys who save the day. Mowgli learns to paint and Darzee is so impressed she says that he'll soon be King of the Jungle. Tabaqui hears the gossip and tells Shere Kahn. Kahn threatens Mowgli but when he attacks he actually attacks the self portrait of Mowgli on the rock, loses his balance, humiliates himself and slopes off back to his lair. Everyone is most impressed and wants to have their portraits done too. Mowgli promises to do paintings of all the animals, but in the morning, when he is less tired.

The Elephant's Secret / The Wrong Panther

Baloo and Bagheera sense that Kala, a rogue black panther, is back in the jungle and looking for Mowgli. The two animals try to keep this news from Mowgli, but he overhears them and goes off in a huff at being treated like a small child, collecting Bala along the way. Mowgli and Bala have a run-in with Tabaqui when the jackal taunts them about Bagheera's bravery. Whilst Bagheera is looking for Mowgli, he comes across Kala. Seeing the two black panthers, Mowgli is unsure of which is which. He soon finds out when Kala grabs Bala. Brave Bagheera saves the day by leaping onto the rogue panther's back and fighting with him. Kala is cast out of the jungle, but not before he frightens the life out of Tabaqui!

Cheel and the Mountain Fire / The Buffaloes

Lightening causes a fire in the mountains and a terrified Ponya runs for her life. Tabaqui discovers the exhausted Ponya but Darzee alters Mowgli, Baloo and Bagheera to Ponya's plight. Tabaqui then uses Darzee to divert Baloo and Bagheera to a false emergency involving the baby crocodiles and then lures Ponya into Shere Kahn's territory. With the help of Cheel, Mowgli finds Ponya and Cheel saves the small panda, lifting her to safety. In the nick of time Baloo and Bagheera arrive to save Mowgli. The rain kills the mountain fire and Ponya returns to her mountain home. Mowgli and Bagheera come across a female buffalo that has a very sick son. Mowgli offers help, but the problem is Mowgli can't remember which berry is the right one to give to the young calf. Darzee is sent to ask Baloo. Meanwhile, Tabaqui has altered Shere Kahn to the plight of the buffaloes and they plot to get the calf and Mowgli at the same time. Darzee comes up trumps and returns with the information they need, whilst Mowgli and Bagheera foil the laid by Kahn and Tabaqui. The young buffalo is saved and he and his Mother can return to their herd.

Human After All / Two For the Price of One

Tabaqui interrupts Mowgli and Rikki Tikki Tavi whilst they are playing. Tabaqui attacks Mowgli and Rikki Tikki dives in to save him. Word goes around the jungle that Mowgli was so scared he had to be saved by Rikki Tikki. To Mowgli's annoyance the animals mock him and his lack of bravery. Mowgli's human side comes to the fore when he gets very petulant and threatens to return to the man village. It is only when Bagheera is in danger that Mowgli realises how silly he's been. He diverts the villagers away from Bagheera and is finally praised for his bravery. Phaona sees Mowgli near the man village and complains to the pack that he is bringing danger and should be returned to the village. Akela doesn't agree, so Phaona talks Tabaqui into setting a meeting up with Shere Kahn, whom he tells of his plan to get rid of Mowgli and Akela at the same time. Akela is lured to the pit near the man village and gets trapped. But Mowgli is there to save him and, mysteriously, so is Phaona. Mowgli is left wondering about Phaona's real intentions.

River Leaf / Monkey Business

Jealousy rears its head when Mowgli finds a mirror that has been dropped by a human. Tabaqui is terrified by what he sees in the mirror and thinks there are maybe three, four or more Mowgli's, but Shere Kahn isn't concerned at all. If there's more than one man-cub then there's more for him to eat! Masha steals the mirror, but when Mowgli, Baloo and Bagheera get it back they walk straight into Shere Kahn's path. Our heroes trick Kahn and Tabaqui with the mirror, after which Baloo persuades Mowgli to return it to the humans. It's caused too much trouble in the jungle. Mowgli has challenged Phaona to a trial of bravery when the sun is at its highest. It looks as though he might be late for the meeting when he encounters a young monkey, Mani, who has got lost. It's down to Mowgli to take him to Cold Lair. But Mani is a mischievous sort and plays tricks on Mowgli. Mowgli manages to complete both tasks...eventually.

The Red Crocodile / Lucky Star

Mowgli discovers a baby crocodile in a nest and takes him to the Friendly Area. Baloo insists that Mowgli returns the croc, now named Nibbly, to his home. Nibbly keeps following Mowgli until the boy gives in and takes the croc with him. Realising that he has other things to do Mowgli goes through a list of possible baby-sitters for Nibbly. After seeing an effigy of a red crocodile painted on an alter near the monkey's home he entrusts the baby croc to Masha. When Masha tries to use Nibbly to frighten Thuu the snake away, Mowgli has to admit he's not a red crocodile. Masha and the other monkeys are furious at being tricked and it is only the intervention of Baloo and Bagheera, pretending to be crocodiles, which finally get Mowgli and Nibbly out of trouble. Appu the elephant wants to try new things. He disobeys Hathi and attempts to throw a star stone up into the air. Tradition has it that if the stone doesn't fall down, he'll be a grown-up. When Appu gets lost Mowgli enlists the help of Cheel to find the young elephant. Mowgli helps Appu overcome his fear of spiders, and Hathi helps pull the young elephant to safety. Appu is allowed to throw the star stone and is delighted when it doesn't fall down again. He's joined the grown-ups, but still has a lot to learn.

Save The Tiger / King Kaa

Shere Kahn is chasing Mowgli through the jungle when the man-cub finds himself in quicksand. In spite of Mowgli's pleas for help, Shere Kahn leaves him there to die. But later, when Shere Kahn finds himself in similar peril, Mowgli's better side can't leave the tiger to his fate. He saves his enemy, who slinks away to fight another day. It's Banana Day and Baloo gets to eat all the bananas he's been cultivating. But Kaa has another snack in mind, a tasty monkey. As Kaa strikes the monkey hides behind a reflective plate and Kaa hypnotises himself into believing he's King of the Monkeys. Baloo discovers a monkey trying to steal his bananas and when our heroes track the monkey to Cold Lairs they find Kaa behaving in a very strange manner. Mowgli solves the problem by using the silver plate to encourage Kaa to re-hypnotise himself back to normal. Baloo gets his bananas back and shares them with all his friends.

The Cobra's Egg / Thirst!

Mowgli wants to go searching for berries with Baloo and Bagheera, but Baloo feels the terrain will be too dangerous for Mowgli. Disgruntled, Mowgli wanders off into the jungle. Meanwhile, Tabaqui has found a tasty snack in the form of an egg - until he discovers it belongs to a cobra. Tabaqui tricks Mowgli into taking the egg to prove his manhood, but what he's really doing is delivering the man cub to Shere Kahn. Rikki Tikki Tavi tries to stop Mowgli from taking the egg but gets knocked unconscious by a falling coconut. Not seeing this, Mowgli continues his quest - and finds the cobra's egg. Convinced that Mowgli has been bitten by the snake, Tabaqui and Shere Kahn are surprised to find him alive and well, and carrying the egg! During the confrontation the mother cobra returns, and all three take to their heels. Tababqui trips Mowgli, Mowgli drops the egg and Tabaqui steals it, leaving Mowgli with the mother cobra advancing on him. Rikki Tikki Tavi comes bursting out of the jungle and saves Mowgli's life, whereas Tabaqui is horrified when the egg hatches and disappears off when the mother is united with her baby. There is a drought and Shere Kahn is guarding the waterfall, preventing any of the other animals from drinking. His condition for letting them drink is for Mowgli to give himself up. Mowgli is willing, but Baloo and Bagheera say there must be a better way. Mowgli pretends to give himself up but in fact leads Shere Kahn into a pit. Just as Mowgli is telling his friends they can drink, an enraged Shere Kahn arrives at the scene. Mowgli now has to give himself up, but as he's saying a long drawn out goodbye to everyone - it starts to rain. Mowgli's delaying tactic has worked.

Is That You Kaa? / The Rubber Ball

When Kaa sheds his skin, Mowgli asks whether he can have it. Kaa agrees and Mowgli stuffs it with leaves and moss until it looks like a snake again. He plans some mischief with his fake snake and scares Tabaqui with it. When Tabaqui finds out the snake isn't real, he reports back to Shere Kahn, hoping the tiger will avenge this embarrassment. But when Shere Kahn finds Mowgli and the snake it is no longer a fake. It is the real thing - Kaa - and it is Kaa who gives Shere Kahn a most uncomfortable squeeze. By sheer fluke some drops of sap from a rubber tree fall into a coconut husk Mowgli has been playing with. The result is that Mowgli finds himself the proud owner of a rubber ball. Mowgli is extremely possessive of this rubber ball, upsetting Bala and Lali with his arrogance. He fails to see Shere Kahn prowling around and is shocked when Kahn confronts him. Kahn's paw gets stuck in the ball but he is undeterred and continues to go after Mowgli. Bala comes to the rescue, and throws the ball into the tiger's mouth. Mowgli, Bala and Lali leave the tiger to his own devices and return to the Friendly Area, where Mowgli thanks Bala for saving his life and in turn the cubs forgive Mowgli for his selfishness.

Phaona's Nasty Trick / The Wishing Tree

The wolf pack want to make Mowgli an honorary of the pack but Phaona, always jealous of Mowgli, is determined this won't happen. When the monthly meeting is held at Council Rock, Phaona tricks Mowgli into going to the Elephant March with a phony message for Hathi - who has no idea what Mowgli is talking about! Hathi sends Mowgli home, and accompanied by Bagheera he sets off in the dark, only to be set upon by Shere Kahn, who has tracked him down. Bagheera and the baby elephants protect Mowgli and ensure he gets back to Council Rock. Mowgli is just in time to hear Phaona maligning him. Akela sees that the man cub has been set up by Phaona so gives him a punishment to atone for his disloyalty. Meanwhile, Mowgli is delighted to be given his honoree membership of the pack. Akela has the wolves and Mowgli out on a training session, during which Phaona causes Mowgli to trip, ensuring he fails the test to be allowed to hunt with the wolf pack. Tabaqui plays on Mowgli's insecurities by tricking him into thinking that a special wishing tree with solve all his problems. Mowgli is doubtful at first, but then decides it can't do any harm to make a wish. What he doesn't know is that Tabaqui is setting him up to be Shere Kahn's next dinner! During a fight with Shere Kahn, Mowgli in turn tricks him and makes his escape; leaving Shere Kahn stuck in the roots of the tree. Akala gives Mowgli another chance and Mowgli comes through the test with flying colours, ensuring he will be allowed to hunt with the pack!

Snake Bite / The Bridge

It is the night of the Council of Wolves, but Akela is nowhere to be seen. Phaona prepares to the declare himself leader of the pack - until it is discovered that Akela has been bitten by a snake. Ikki knows where some snake bite anti-dote is kept, and Mowgli volunteers to go to Broadcaster's Handbook 4 0 DQ Entertainment the man village to fetch the medicine. But, on his way back, he is met by Phaona who has treachery on his mind. Mowgli thwarts him and gets the medicine back to save Akela's life. He doesn't betray Phaona but instead gets him to take the doctor's bag back to the man village. When Appu the young elephant has an argument with his sister, he runs off from the herd in high dudgeon. But he soon becomes lost and finds himself in Cold Lair. There, the Bandar Log torment him; he runs across a large stone doorway that crumbles beneath his weight and finds himself stranded on top of a high pillar. Mowgli comes to the rescue with a plan to build a rope bridge to save Appu, and after many breathtaking moments, the little elephant is saved - and has many regrets about the argument with his sister that caused his life to be in danger.

Survival Of The Fittest / The Day The Earth Shook

Although his lifestyle involves honey, bananas and lots of naps, Baloo thinks he is very fit... which is why he challenges Mowgli and Bagheera to a series of fitness contests. It's neck and neck throughout, until Baloo overdoes it in a weightlifting session and brings a pile of logs crashing down upon him. Mowgli and Bagheera can't move the logs, and Mowgli has to call upon Hathi and his son to help out. Baloo is grateful and resolves to up his level of health and fitness - with a special honey treat! All the jungle animals are quiet, and it soon becomes clear why. There's an earthquake on its way! The quake causes chaos all over the jungle, especially at the wolves' lair where a rock-fall traps Bala and Lali. Raksha and Daruka do their best to shift the logs, but to no avail. They call on Mowgli, who realizes that a little lateral thinking is required. They have to get someone inside to help the cubs out, and that someone is Kaa! Kaa and Mowgli form an unlikely alliance to get the cubs successfully out of the cave without injury.

Mowgli's Sparkly / Blood Brothers

Whilst out playing Mowgli and Lali find a sparkly necklace that has been washed downstream from the man village. Both want the necklace and, after an argument, agree to share the necklace equally, but whilst in Lali's care the necklace is stolen by the Bandar Log. Cheel tells Mowgli that he has seen the monkeys playing with something sparkly, so Mowgli and Lali go to investigate. The monkeys drop the necklace just as Shere Kahn appears. Mowgli and Lali face the tiger, but it is with the help of the monkeys they've survive his attack. To end all future squabbles, Mowgli and Lali agree to put the sparkly back in the river as it's been more trouble than it's worth. Mowgli plans to visit his family with Baloo and Bagheera, but Baloo gets distracted by a bee hive and gets left behind. Meanwhile, Shere Kahn forces Tabaqui to make friends with the wolf cubs and lure them to his lair. Shere Kahn knows that Mowgli will come to try and rescue them! Raksha is distraught as her cubs have disappeared, and Daruka is away on a hunting trip. After an exciting showdown, Mowgli, Baheera and the cubs escape, only to be trapped in the Cold Lairs. But, at the last minute, Raksha arrives with Daruka and the rest of the pack, and Shere Kahn is forced to back down.

The Waterfall / Darzi's Waterfall Rescue

During a big storm Bagheera and Mowgli are sitting in a tree admiring the view. Meantime Shere Kahn and Tabaqui have hatched a plan to lure Bagheera away. Tabaqui tells the two friends that Baloo is being attacked by Shere Kahn, but when Bagheera and Tabaqui arrive, Shere Kahn leaves Baloo and disappears. A bolt of lightening strikes Mowgli's tree and he is thrown into the raging river. He finds himself facing the waterfall, a crocodile and Shere Kahn, plus Tabaqui has also ended up in the water. Baloo and Bagheera arrive to save Mowgli, but he insists he has to help Tabaqui first. Mowgli and Tabaqui are dramatically rescued, while Shere Kahn is swept over the falls.....but the tiger lives to tell the tale! Lali and Mowgli are out playing and as usual they've got into the game of outdoing each other. Unknown to them Shere Khan is tracking them, lying low in the bushes, watching their progress up the waterfall. Darzi alerts them to Shere Khan's presence but Lali doesn't take the potential danger on board. She proceeds to go higher and higher up the rocks edging the waterfall and only at this point does she see Shere Khan right behind them. Quick-witted Mowgli hides behind the waterfall but the wily tiger soon spies them, with him snapping at their heels Mowgli and Lali have no choice but to scale the rock face where if it were not for little Darzi's intervention they would surely have met an untimely end.

Mowgli's Log / Who Is The Bravest?

Baloo is boring Mowgli and Bagheera with stories as he's fishing. Mowgli dives into the water and is snapped up and taken off by Jakala. He has been taken as bait in a 'hunting training session' for Jakala's 5 baby sons. Mowgli gets stuck in the mud and Baloo can't get near him. Meanwhile, Bagheera is trying to reach Mowgli from a tree branch on the river bank. Baloo and Mowgli start telling the baby crocs a story to delay the inevitable when suddenly Hathi bursts through the undergrowth. Between them, Hathi and Bagheera manage to save Mowgli from being used as bait, but the baby crocs never get to hear the end of the story. Mowgli frightens his friends when he shows off by bungee jumping from a tree. His reckless behaviour triggers a discussion about who is the bravest animal in the jungle. Mowgli endeavours to find out and goes to ask Hathi. Hathi answers Mowgli's question with another one: what is Mowgli afraid of? A puzzled and pre-occupied Mowgli falls down a well and finds himself trapped. He spends a cold and lonely night in the well until he is thrown a vine by Tabaqui. But the cunning jackal has tricked Mowgli, who finds himself face to face with Shere Kahn. Hathi comes to Mowgli's rescue and Mowgli learns a valuable lesson: there are things he fears but he can face them with courage.

Fished Out / Kite Flight

Mowgli decides that having a rod and line for fishing is more efficient than Baloo's method. The two have a contest to see which method is better, but Baloo cracks his head on a branch and falls on to a floating log, drifting away.... unconscious. Mowgli and Bagheera dash to the rescue, have a scary encounter with Jakala and try to rescue Baloo as he drifts under a man-made bridge. Bagheera ends up on the log as it drifts towards the rapid waterfalls. Mowgli remembers his fishing rod idea and with a springy cane and vine, he snags the log. With the help of Oo and Boo, the turtles, he manages to pull Baloo and Bagheera ashore. Mowgli, Bagheera and Baloo are surprised by the arrival of Bala, who is in a panic because Cheel the Kite has flown off with Lali. When Bala and Mowgli are on their way to the wolves' lair, Mowgli is also taken by the giant bird. After a scary ride in Cheels' powerful talons, he finds that Cheel has taken Lali to his nest and that Cheel has rescued them from something even more deadly. A black cobra has staked itself out in territory very close to the wolves. After chasing the cobra off, Mowgli and his friends wave a very grateful goodbye to the proud kite.

Treasure Of Cold Lair / Legend Of The Giant Claw

Kaa visits Baloo with an urgent message. Thuu, the whiter cobra, has gone missing. Since Thuu normally guards the Treasure of Cold Lair, this causes great concern to our heroes. The treasure is much sought after by the humans and if they find it, more unwelcome humans will come to the jungle. Mowgli befriends a female monkey called Langur, who has seen men at the Cold Lair. Baloo, Bagheera, Mowgli and Langur try to guard the treasure and ward off the humans. Baloo is injured, and Shere Kahn is reluctantly recruited to help drive the humans away. Using Tabaqui to help him, Kahn betrays the cause, but Mowgli is rescued from Kahn's jaws by the Languor monkey. The two of them dress up to 'haunt' the superstitious humans, driving them away and saving the treasure from being discovered. Mowgli, Baloo and Bagheera hear a mighty roar in the jungle. Baloo says there is only one creature that could make that noise - the Giant Claw! Mowgli and Bagheera go in search of this creature, only to discover that it was Cheel the kite, who has been cooling off in a log. His cries echoing through the log have made this almighty sound. On their way back to tell Baloo of their discovery, Mowgli and Bagheera see Shere Kahn on his way to where Cheel is. They race back, and by digging out an imprint of a huge claw in the ground and faking the terrible roar, our heroes save Cheel from becoming Shere Kahn's dinner. When they are all back together again, Baloo smiles and tells them that it's amazing what imagination can do!
