Meanwhile, the busy working lives of Nick and Kate are beginning to effect their relationship and Kate realises she is pregnant.

Trouble arrives in Aidensfield as a Russian ship docks in Whitby and a crew member believes he has killed one of his colleagues. Meanwhile two children go missing.

A file containing details about an adoption go missing during a break-in at Ashfordly Council and a toddler is abducted shortly after. Bird watchers come across some destroyed falcon eggs and Greengrass is the prime suspect.

Nick joins Ventress who is on a fishing holiday near Whitby in order to investigate smugglers in the area. Meanwhile Kate has to cope with a girl who is seeking advice about abortions.

There is a suspected outbreak of rabies as a local garage owner is put into hospital and dies. The suspected dog goes missing and a search is started to find him. Ventress becomes the first to try out a new police car and Nick pays Greengrass a visit concerning hare poaching.

A woman believed to be a witch by the local children is under suspicion when her deceased employer's relatives are poisoned.

Whitby's new Inspector sets up a hunt for a large animal suspected of killing sheep after finding several injured animals. Greengrass finds himself having to come up with an inventive way to make money following some news from the Inland Revenue. Kate decides to join Dr James Radcliffe in his practice in Whitby.

A heavy snowstorm puts Aidensfield into isolation and brings down the power lines. Disruption occurs when a train crashes, a pregnant woman finds herself about to give birth in a cottage and Greengrass frets when he loses his dog Alfred.

Ferrenby finds himself the victim of a burglary at his practice and receives a blow on the head in the attack. The thieves steal pills that are sold off as Speed and Greengrass claims that his car has been stolen.

A surprise visit is expected from the Sub-divisional Inspector any day and so the police team undergo some spring cleaning. Greengrass makes a citizen's arrest on two people he thinks are burglars. Meanwhile Nick and Kate are undergoing marital problems as their hectic working lives cause strains.

An American riding his motorcycle finds himself crashing into a fence when he tries to avoid some sheep on the road. Kate has to move her practice to the police station as a result of Dr. Ferrenby's death and Nick suffers from the flu.
