1. Why should I donate to TVO?
When you donate to TVO, you become part of a community of viewers and supporters that help provide quality, uninterrupted, on-air programming and online content not available anywhere else. When you give to TVO, you show that you value public educational media and recognize the important role it plays in our lives.
2. What is my donation used for?
Although we receive funding from the Government of Ontario, it is not enough to cover the costs of maintaining our current level of quality programming and support our growth and innovation into the future. Your donation is used to fund a variety of projects and programs:
• Expanding resources, research and program development that help kids get ready to succeed in school;
• Supporting parents with videos and other resources that address issues of culture, identity, curriculum content, and how to navigate Ontario’s public education system;
• Supporting the creation of high-quality, full-length Canadian point of view documentaries and promoting and nurturing homegrown talent through initiatives like the Doc Studio;
• Community outreach that takes The Agenda with Steve Paikin, Don’t Sit Still Tour, Read with Gisèle Library Tour, and other TVO programs on the road, giving audiences across the province the opportunity to interact and build community around important issues;
• Preserving and protecting our heritage for future generations through initiatives like TVO’s Public Archives.
3. Is TVO a registered charity?
TVO is a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency. TVO's charitable registration number is 85985 0232 RR0001. All donations will receive a charitable tax receipt from the CRA. For our friends in the U.S, TVO is a tax exempt charity under section 501(c)3: Tax ID 75-1850754 and donors will receive a tax receipt.
4. How can I make a donation to TVO?
There are three (3) simple ways to make a financial gift to TVO:

5. Can I make an ongoing monthly donation?
Yes, you can! Joining us as a member of our monthly giving program, the Producers’ Club, means that you are an important member of the TVO community. There are many reasons to become a monthly donor.
• Significance: Monthly contributions provide a steady and reliable funding base for TVO. Your ongoing support makes an incredible difference to our programming, content distribution and reach.
• Convenience: You can make ongoing monthly donations through a credit card or bank account. You’ll also get just one tax receipt a year.
• Flexibility & Control: You can increase or decrease your support, put it on hold for a few months or cancel your support at any time. You can also break down your support into small regular donations, whether it's $10, $20, $40 or more a month
• Cost Effective: Monthly giving results in lower administrative costs and reduces our impact on the environment. More of your donation goes directly to meaningful initiatives.

6. What other types of donations does TVO accept?
Depending on your personal situation, deciding what to give may be just as important as deciding how much to give. These decisions can help with planning your philanthropic goals. TVO accepts bequests in wills, annuities, legacy gifts and the transfer of securities with the aid of your broker through RBC Dominion Securities. A tax receipt is issued for the value of the securities at the time of the transfer.

7. Does TVO work with corporate sponsors?
Yes. Under the terms of our broadcasting license issued by the CRTC, TVO is permitted to seek financial support through sponsorship. Sponsorship is an important part of building a sustainable business model for TVO. We do not interrupt our programs with commercials. Rather, we partner with sponsors who help underwrite our schedule, and we recognize these sponsors on-air. A corporate partnership with TVO provides your organization with unique recognition opportunities.

8. I want to donate, but do not want to give my credit card information over the phone. What are my options?
If you feel uncomfortable giving your credit card information over the phone, there are a number of secure options you can choose to make a donation to TVO. In addition to donating online, you can call 416.484.2665 or 1.800.463.6886 (within Canada and the U.S) and speak with a TVO Donor Relations representative.
9. I want to make a donation online. Is your website secure?
Yes, our website is secure. Transferring data is made via a secure connection, encrypted and conducted within a firewall. When you use your credit card on our website to make a donation, your credit card number is stored in an encrypted fashion.
10. How is my credit card information stored?
TVO is complaint with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). This is a set of requirements designed to ensure that all companies that process, store or transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment.
TVO does not store credit card information on-site or with your personal account in our database. All credit card transactions are handled through a secure vendor approved by the major credit card companies. When you make a gift to TVO on your credit card, your credit card information is encrypted and is not accessible to TVO staff, or our call centre operators. 11. Do you share my name with other organizations?
To minimize our mailing costs, TVO sometimes exchanges mailing lists with other charitable organizations. However, if you do not want your name exchanged, you can contact TVO Donor Relations at 416-484-2665 or 1-800-463-6886or via email at donations@tvo.org and we’ll ensure your record is marked accordingly.
12. I received a telephone call from someone claiming to work for TVO. Is this a legitimate call?
As one of our fundraising methods, TVO does use the services of a telemarketing firm to make solicitation calls on our behalf. The cost associated with making these calls falls within Canada Revenue Agency guidelines for charities.

13. When can I expect a tax receipt?
Tax receipts for one-time donations are mailed within four weeks after processing your donation. If you make your donation on-line, you have the option of receiving a tax receipt through email within 24 hours or via Canada Post.
Tax receipts for donors who contribute to TVO through our Producers’ Club Monthly Giving program by monthly deductions are mailed annually each February.
14. I registered for the National Do Not Call List. Why are you still calling me?
TVO is a charitable organization and registered charities are exempt from the National Do Not Call Registry. If you wish to have your name on TVO’s internal Do Not Call List, please contact TVO Donor Relations at 416-484-2665 or 1-800-463-6886, or email donations@tvo.org.

15. Why am I receiving duplicate mailings from TVO Donations?

16. How can I sign up for your newsletter to get programming highlights? Our e-newsletter is emailed out the last week of each month and provides programming highlights and a link to our website where you can download a full program schedule for the next month.
